As I write, Lire is "washin' dishes" in the kitchen. The boys are both getting really good at it -- no, I'm not a taskmaster, they really WANT to wash the dishes. We sacrifice a lot of cleanliness in the name of Maria Montessori (they wash dishes, vacuum, sweep, dust, etc.), but someday, they will make a future partner happy when they gladly grab a broom or a toilet brush. Toilet cleaning is the holy grail of housecleaning.
Wednesdays are the one day Lire doesn't go to school -- the nursery class he's joined is full on Wednesdays. So he gets a lot of one-on-one time with me and Alex, which he appreciates. I also go down the street to our local zendo to meditate with a few other people for about 40 minutes on Wednesday mornings. Al drives H to school and then has an adventure with Lire at one of our neighbor's places. That way, after meditation with the sangha* I get about 1/2 - 1 hour to myself to bathe and get my day planned out.
This morning when they returned Lire and I waded back through the rain to the car for another adventure. We went to the library for a story time with a friend, had a muffin at our local eatery, and visited the toy store to get gifts for future birthday parties. This toy store allows the kids to ride the riding toys, play with the train tracks, push around trucks, etc. Visited a chain fashion store whose name rhymes with "map" and found a few things on sale. When asked by the sales person if he liked shopping, Lire answered "All Day!"
Now I'm listening to Feelin' Groovy**, and I actually DO feel groovy. As Lire would say, it's a Rainbow Day!***
* sangha is a community of other people who meditate and are studying the Buddhist precepts
** Check out the version by Jim's Big Ego
*** song by Luka Bloom -- one of Lire's fav's
PS Lire isn't doing so well with the dishes. Basically he's jangling the measuring spoons to the next tune on the radio.
